solid and void
Solid and Void is a project that investigates how three-dimensional shapes can be built and subtracted from in order to create interesting and evoking spaces. The arrangement and ratio of solid and void directly impacts the program and use of a space, informing the user how a particular room or area should be used. The larger the voids, the more open the space will appear and feel, contrasting with the regular use of that will cause the space to feel increasingly more private and secluded.

A Boolean structure was coded for and then able to be manipulated in order to provide variations from which the cubes could be extracted from. Once the Boolean shape was decided upon 50mm squared cubes were produced to look at how form can frame space and therefore dictate its function. These cubes were then 3D printed in order to observe the tactility of the forms created.
